Jonathan Rea is sixth in the championship standings

Jonathan Rea was edged into second place by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda teammate Andrew Pitt in Sunday's World Supersport round at Assen.

The Ballyclare rider, who started from second, was involved in a titanic battle with Australian ace Pitt throughout the race.

Rea led going into the final lap but Pitt came through to claim victory by just 0.014 seconds.

Championship leader Joan Lascorz of Spain completed the podium places.

Rea now lies sixth in the championship standings.
