Rea set to delay finger surgery
Jonathan Rea
Rea was runner-up in last year's British Superbike Series
Jonathan Rea is set to delay surgery on an injured finger to take part in this weekend's second round of the World Supersport series at Phillip Island.

The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider partially severed a tendon in his right finger just two laps into his World Supersport debut in Qatar on Saturday.

Rea could be left with a permanently hooked finger because of his decision to put off the surgery.

The Ballyclare rider had qualified in fourth place for the season opener.

The 21-year-old hopes to get the all-clear from medics to compete this weekend.

After the Australian round of the global series this weekend, Rea is due to carry out further testing on his Honda in Valencia.
