Rea misses out on Superbike crown
Jonathan Rea
Jonathan Rea ended the campaign with two podium finishes
Jonathan Rea was forced to settle for runner-up spot in the British Superbike Championship after two second places in Sunday's final round at Brands Hatch.

The Ballyclare rider finished 26 points behind HM Plant Honda team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari, who retained the title after coming third in the opening race.

Spain's Gregorio Lavilla won both races on an Airwaves Ducati.

John Laverty won the Superstock opener and Ian Lowry finished second in the Supersport series after coming sixth.

Lowry ended the championship 52 points behind fellow Northern Ireland racer Michael Laverty, who made the podium after claiming third place.

John Laverty was fourth in the second Supersports race, Marshall Neill was 13th and 11th in the same class and Virgin Media Cup champion BJ Toal was fourth in the series finale.

Lavilla's team-mate Leon Haslam completed the top three in the Superbike standings, 19 points ahead of the fourth-placed Spaniard.

It was Rea's final race in the BSB with the 20-year-old set to ride in the World Supersport Championship with the Ten-Kate Honda team in 2008.
