Eastbourne captain Cameron Woodward targets lead

Woodward is in his fifth consecutive season with the Eagles

Eastbourne Eagles captain Cameron Woodward wants his side to build a lead in the first leg of their Knock Out Cup tie against Wolverhampton.

Eastbourne welcome the Wolves to Arlington Stadium on Sunday before the return leg 24 hours later.

Woodward told BBC Sussex: "It's very important. If we've got five or less points lead they'll go back with their chins up.

"They are awesome around their home track to we'll have our work cut out."

The Eagles won their quarter-final against Lakeside after establishing a 12-point lead in the first leg, and Woodward is hoping for a repeat performance.

"We need the same again if possible but it will be really difficult," the 25-year-old said.

"We all want to finish the season on a high.

"We've had some good results in the last few months. It's a shame we didn't make the play-offs.

"This is the last bit of silverware we can maybe get in our hands."
