Brighton boss Gus Poyet says more managers in the English leagues should adopt a passing style of play.

The Uruguayan introduced the approach after taking over at the Seagulls last year, and his side currently sit top of League One.

Poyet told BBC Sussex: "Everyone is convinced in England that football needs to go that way.

"We need to coach young players to control the ball better and pass it better. Not to rush and lose it."

He added: "Sometimes people blame foreigners and I understand why they say it but some of us are trying to play football.

"The supporters can pay and watch their team win, but also enjoy the football and see plenty of action."

Brighton welcome Bournemouth to the Withdean Stadium on Saturday, and Poyet has praised the approach of Cherries boss Eddie Howe.

"They've got one way of playing football and it works in this division," he said.

"You've got these young managers in the lower divisions trying to play football. He is one of them and I'm very pleased."
