All the hole-by-hole action as Tiger Woods tried to ignite his title challenge in the US Open.
First hole
Woods begins the third round on five-over par, having just made the cut with scores of 74 and 71 in the first 36 holes. He tees off at 18:11 BST, paired with fellow American Joe Durant. The world number one is desperate for a flying start - but his opening drive is not a good one and he finds a fairway bunker on the right of the hole. He launches a huge swing and plays out of the sand - but he is unable to reach the green in two.
He then tries to chip close to the pin, but the ball only just finds the edge of the green and is still way short of the hole. He now faces a 30-footer for par - but the putt is hit slightly to the left and he has to settle for a bogey.

Second hole
Having made the worst possible start, Woods responds with a perfect drive at this tough par four. His long-iron approach is well struck - but the ball is held up in the wind and drops onto the front of the green, 35 feet short of the hole. Woods does well to read the huge double-break on the putt, but the ball will not drop and he claims a par.

Third hole
After a steady tee shot Woods then produces an excellent approach to set up a difficult birdie chance. He sends a 20-foot putt towards the hole, but as he prepares to celebrate picking up his first shot of the round, the ball lips out and it is just another par.

Fourth hole
Another fine drive puts him in the centre of the fairway. His second shot hits the far side of the green before spinning back - but it is still 30 feet from the hole. Again he judges a tricky downhill putt so well - but again it misses by a couple of inches.

Fifth hole
At 640 yards this is the longest hole in championship golf. But it holds no fears for Woods, who manages to get more than half-way to the green with a phenomenal drive which travels some 347 yards down the fairway. He follows that with a huge second, but it is slightly off-target and finds a greenside bunker. He puts an excellent sand wedge to 12 feet and holes the putt for his first birdie of the round.

Sixth hole
A sweet nine iron to the centre of the green gives him another birdie putt on this 175-yard par-three. No joy this time, though - and he has yet to make up any ground on the leaders a third of the way through his round.
Five-over parSeventh hole
Woods opts for a four iron off the tee as he aims for position on this dog-leg par-four. Despite being some 168 yards from the pin, he then takes a nine iron out of the bag. It proves a mistake as the ball drops short of the green. He so nearly pulls off a stunning birdie by holing a gorgeous chip shot - but it stops two inches short.

Eighth hole
Suddenly Woods finds something like his best form as he produces a superb tee shot at this long par-three, scorching the ball to within eight feet of the pin. The putt falls for a birdie two and the partisan gallery shows its delight.
Four-over parNinth hole
Woods' drive finds the first cut of rough on the right-hand side of the fairway. The lie seems fine - but he misjudges his second shot, a sand wedge, and the ball hits an overhanging branch and lands in the bunker. Now he does have trouble, with the ball stuck at the back of the bunker. His third shot from the sand flies over the green and into the rough on the other side. He chips back to seven feet and holes the bogey putt.
Another dropped shot means he turns in level-par 35.

Tenth hole
Another steady drive puts him in prime position on the fairway, 118 yards from the pin. But his wedge shot again finds sand. This time the bunker shot is of the highest quality and the ball nearly sinks. He taps in for par.

Eleventh hole
His tee shot bounds onto the front of the green on this 165-yard par-three. His 30-foot putt is only a half-chance, but he comes close to holing it before again settling for par.
Five-over parTwelfth hole
Woods hits the floor with his club is frustration after sending his drive into the rough on the left of the fairway. The lie is poor but he still goes for the pin. The ball again hits the trees and drops in the rough well short of the green.
His chip looks to be heading for the hole, but it races past and off the other side of the green. He recovers with a chip and a putt - but another dropped shot means his title chances are slipping away.

Thirteenth hole
This par five offers a rare birdie chance on a daunting course and Woods gets the perfect start with a big drive. He gets the ball to within six feet in three - and seems set for a vital birdie. But the ball slips by the hole and he is left to regret another wasted opportunity.

Fourteenth hole
Woods makes up for his lapse on the previous hole, as he finds the green in regulation and sinks a 12-foot putt for a birdie three.
Five-over parFifteenth hole
He is continuing to create openings - this time with a 10-foot putt. But he is not holing enough of them and he watches in frustration as another putt slips by.
Five-over parSixteenth hole
Deja vu for Woods' fans. He carves out another birdie chance, but again misses from around the 10-foot distance by the narrowest of margins.
Five-over parSeventeenth hole
Time is running out for the world number one and he is still level par for the day. But after reaching the green in two on this short par-four he lands the putt and picks up a shot with just one hole remaining.
Four-over parEighteenth hole
The hole rated as the most daunting on the course holds no demons for Woods. He cuts off the dog-leg with a fine drive then hits an approach to 20 feet. Again he is just off target and finishes the day with a par four. He cards a one-under par 69 for the round, but is still way off the pace for the championship.
