| Woosnam eyes first Open win Woosnam plays from the rough on the 6th hole Ian Woosnam feels confident of making a serious challenge for this year's Open after his second round 68 moved him within striking distance of the leaders. His three-under-par round leaves him on two-under-par for the championship and only five shots behind leader Colin Montgomery (-7). But Woosnam believes that a score of level-par could yet prove good enough to win if the strength of the wind increases over the weekend. "After my last nine holes last night, I didn't think I was going to be here for the weekend - so I'm happy," said Woosnam. "I wouldn't say I played fantastic but I kept it in play. "I made the birdies at the right time and didn't make any mistakes."
Phil Price was particularly pleased after his two-under-par round of 69 left him on one-over-par and two shots clear of the halfway cut. "It's a relief really," said Price. "After shooting three-over yesterday, you start to wonder whether your going to be playing on the weekend. "So just making tomorrow's round was pleasing." Price got off to the worst possible start with a bogey on the first, but five birdies and only another two dropped shots left him in a positive frame of mind as he prepares for the final two rounds. |
