| Asian Heights out of Derby Asian Heights ridden by Kieren Fallon winning at Goodwood Asian Heights suffered a serious injury at Friday's Newmarket gallops and will miss next week's Epsom Derby. The colt won the Predominate Stakes at Goodwood last month to earn a quote of 8-1 and a place among the favourites to win the Epsom Classic. However, the injury the Asian Heights suffered at Newmarket is serious enough to rule him out for the rest of the racing season. "He pulled up lame after galloping and I'm afraid he's split a pastern" trainer Geoff Wragg confirmed. "He'll need a couple of screws in it but he should make a full recovery."
Wragg remained confident about Asian Heights' chances of a return to racing. He added: "It's very disappointing but these things happen. There is nothing you can do about it. "He should make a full recovery. It's what I call a straight-down split, no bits or pieces or anything like that. "He should be operated on later on Friday and it should be a straight-forward operation. He's a very good patient, not bothered at all." |
