New Zealand thrashed India by nine wickets in the second Women's Cricket World Cup semi-final in Lincoln.

The hosts now set up a repeat of the 1997 final between themselves and current world champions Australia.

It was all too easy for New Zealand, who had India all out for just 117 despite a valiant effort by Purnima Rau.

She carried her bat for a brave unbeaten 67 but ran out of partners as India failed to do themselves justice.

Only two other players, Smitha Harikrishna (11) and Anju Jain (16) reached double figures as the New Zealand bowlers put India under tremendous pressure.

Different outcome

New Zealand were set a miserly target of 118 to win and set off with gusto.

The only casualty was Rebecca Rolls who was out for 23.

But Anna O'Leary (50no) and Emily Drumm (47no) guided New Zealand to a mouthwatering clash with Australia at the Lincoln Oval on Saturday.

O'Leary hit her third half-century of the tournament off 90 balls.

Before the start of the World Cup, many observers felt a repeat of the 1997 final was as certain as night follows day.

And they have been proved right.

However the hosts New Zealand will be aiming for a very different outcome to three years ago.
