Daly sticks it to doctors
John Daly lays a one-handed chip during practice for The Open last week
Daly is surprisingly effective one-handed
John Daly has glued up a wound in his hand so that he can play in the TNT Dutch Open, which starts on Thursday.

The "Wild Thing" had emergency surgery on Saturday and will defy medical advice to play in Holland.

The two-time Major winner played the last 13 holes of his second round at The Open on Friday virtually one-handed after his right hand suddenly began to hurt.

When he had surgery, much to Daly's surprise, a piece of glass was removed and the wound is still so raw that it started bleeding profusely when Daly played in the pro-am on Wednesday.

"My right hand, just above the first knuckle, started bleeding really bad," said Daly, who managed 11 holes in the pro-am.

"So I put Superglue on top of it. Hopefully it will stop the bleeding.

"I don't care that it's unwise medically. I'm not going to watch it bleed.

"I hit a shot in the rough on the fifth on Friday at the British Open and it felt like somebody stabbed a knife through my finger.

"The piece of glass was stuck in the bone and it had been there for years. I must have jarred it and dislodged it."

Defending champion

Daly has played the event three times before and in 1996, when he carded a second-round 89 to miss the cut, he offered to repay his appearance money.

Defending champion Bernhard Langer will go into the event looking for his fourth Dutch Open title.

Irishman Padraig Harrington and England's Gary Evans, who tied for fifth at Muirfield, are the highest-placed Open Championship finishers in Holland this week.

Six-time Major winner Nick Faldo is also in the field despite his disappointing weekend at Muirfield.
