Daly in health scare
John Daly at the US Masters
Daly has been advised to quit smoking
Former Open champion John Daly has revealed he recently suffered a "mini-stroke".

Daly, who won the Open at St Andrews in 1995, said the problem had been caused by a reaction to diet pills.

The 36-year-old was given the all-clear to travel to The Belfry for this week's Benson and Hedges International and flew in from Chicago on Tuesday morning.

Daly's wife Sherry said he had shown allergic symptoms before, but the latest reaction - which included numbness in one arm - prompted him to go to the doctor.

Hand injury

"We had MRIs done, and we did find out what was causing it," she said on Monday.

"He's fine, and we're going to England for a golf tournament."

Daly, who also won the 1991 USPGA Championship, has been advised to give up smoking but admits he will find it very difficult.

He has not played since the WorldCom Classic at Hilton Head in mid-April, when he suffered a hand injury playing a shot from thick rough.
