Members of the Jersey 2015 bid committee, which has been working on the project for 18 months |
The team hoping to secure the 2015 Island Games for Jersey have rehearsed their presentation for the last time before putting their case this Sunday. Jersey is competing with Gotland (Sweden) to host the games. With the 25 island members having two votes each, it is expected to be the closest race in the 25-year history of the games.
In the event of a tie, it will fall to chairman Jorgen Pettersson to make the final decision. Phil Austin from the Jersey bid told BBC Jersey: "I remain confident that we've got the edge, not based on any inside knowledge, but our bid is really, really strong." His counterpart in Gotland, Bo Frickenstam, is slightly more circumspect. He said: "I don't want to be over-confident, we will have to be on our toes to make our best presentation." Both islands have hosted the games once before, Jersey in 1997 and Gotland two years later. The vote is expected to be completed by 1500 BST on Sunday, 27 June, and will be broadcast live on BBC Jersey.
