Gotland names triathlon as 2015 bid reserve sport

Triathletes dive into water
Triathlon will be put on if there is not enough support for another sport

Triathlon has been named as the reserve sport in Gotland's bid to host the 2015 Island Games.

It will take the place of any of the 14 sports if they do not attract enough support, but only if the Swedish island wins the vote to host the Games.

The International Island Games Association will name Gotland or Jersey as the host at its AGM on 27 June.

Gotland's bid committee chairman Bo Frykenstam said he wanted to keep the other islands aware of their thinking.

Gotland, situated in the middle of the Baltic Sea, is one of the 25 islands that competes in the event held every two years.

Each host puts on 14 sports from a list of 18.

The 2011 Games are due to be held in the Isle of Wight with Bermuda hosting the event in 2013.
