Priaulx and Farfus took the top two places in the first race |
Andy Priaulx won his second race of the World Touring Car Championship season with victory in race one in Monza. The triple world champion and his BMW RBM team-mate Augusto Farfus finished first and second after the two race leaders suffered punctures. In race two Guernsey's Priaulx finished fifth, having started eighth on the grid, while Farfus was fourth. The result leaves Priaulx two points adrift of third in the drivers' standings on 74 points. Yvan Muller leads the championship with 100, while Gabriele Tarquini and Rob Huff, who were the leaders who suffered punctures in race one, are second and third respectively both on 76 points. Priaulx said: "I am so excited. It was bad luck for Gabriele and Rob, as I know only too well as this sort of thing has happened to me in the past, but if an opportunist win is there you take it. "The last lap was amazing, as up to then I was at the head of a train for third, and so had no chance of a slipstream. "This has been a great weekend with good results and good championship points."
