Niki Lauda won his first Formula One drivers' championship with Ferrari in 1975 and recovered from suffering severe burns in a crash in 1976 to take the title again the following season.

He became disillusioned with 'driving round in circles' and quit the circuit aged 30 in 1979 to return to his native Austria to run his own airline - Lauda Air.

But, needing money to fund his business, Lauda returned to racing in 1982.

Now driving for McLaren, he pipped team-mate Alain Prost to take the 1984 title by just half a point before retiring for good a year later.
