Success to come for York City - Michael Ingham

York City goalkeeper Michael Ingham believes manager Gary Mills is taking the club in the right direction.

Mills took over as manager after Martin Foyle resigned in October and has altered the way the team play.

Ingham told BBC Radio York: "He's come in and the lads have taken to it straight away.

"The lads are enjoying it and all I can say is if it keeps going the way it's going I think there will be some good times ahead."

Ingham continued: "He's looking to us to play football that is going to be pleasing on the eye and fans are going to enjoy it, once we get it into our system.

He wanted an outfield captain and there was no throwing the dummy from me

"If you look at the last three games we've had the majority of the ball, and training is sharp."

Since Mills arrived at Bootham Crescent, Ingham has lost his role as captain to new signing Chris Smith but the goalkeeper said he understands the decision.

"I was mightily proud to be captain of a club like this. I think I've made the most appearances in my career for the club and I enjoy every single minute of it.

"Hopefully one day I might get it again but I understand the gaffer's reasoning. He wanted an outfield captain and there was no throwing the dummy from me.

"Obviously I was a little bit disappointed but that's gone now and I back his decision."
