Smith was named York captain for the 2-0 victory over Kidderminster
New signing Chris Smith says he is happy to have returned for a second spell at York City.
The 29-year-old has joined the Minstermen on loan from Mansfield Town, having left Bootham Crescent in 2004.
And the defender was handed the captain's armband on his return, in the 2-0 FA Cup victory over Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.
Smith told BBC Radio York: "It is good to be back, a good game to start, a tough game but a very good win."
After leaving York six years ago, Smith moved on to Stafford and Worcester City before linking up with York manager Gary Mills at Tamworth.
"I spent two years at Tamworth with him, he's a well respected man, someone I respect and I know the lads respect him already," Smith said.
Saturday's victory was the Minstermen's first in six outings and after last week's draw with Bath, Mills talked about the need for more leaders in his side.
Smith added: "That's what he said he wants of me. I am here to do a job, that's one of the jobs he wants me to do and I'll do it. It's nice that he made me skipper, the lads are listening straight away."
The Minstermen will now travel to League Two Rotherham for a Yorkshire derby in the first round of the FA Cup.
