Emotional Slade blasts doubters

Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade hit back at a section of the Glovers home support after his team won 2-1 at Swansea to secure League One survival.

"I got dogs' abuse at last week's home game," he told BBC Somerset. "I was lambasted. I don't get that from the away fans, who have been magnificent.

"I don't get that from all the home fans, but some of them have been a disgrace and were shouting 'get out'.

"I've kept us up with two games to go against a very good side."

Slade has come in for criticism during the past few months as his team slipped from play-off contention in January to a relegation battle in April, and was determined to set the record straight after securing another season in League One by beating the champions at their own ground.

"We've got to rebuild but we've had problems this year, problems that half the people don't understand that I have as a manager, but I've dealt with them. I've come through it, I've remained positive despite what people think," said Slade.

"People don't think I'm passionate sometimes. That's because I'm a thinker of the game but I am passionate. I'm passionate with my players, I want to win big games, I can show you that I've won big games.

"I've won big games, and it sickens me that people think that I'm not capable when I've been to Wembley, I've been to the Millennium Stadium and I've been to the new Wembley in my managerial career.

"It annoys me and frustrates me that people don't pull in the right direction - I don't need those people that don't want to pull in the right direction."

But the Glovers boss was keen to stress that his comments were not directed at the Yeovil support as a whole, and was quick to praise the travelling fans, who had applauded his team off the pitch.

"They've always been brilliant and I can't give them high enough praise, they have to go further distances than anybody in the country and I am so thankful for all the supporters who are behind me and are behind the club," he added.

"I will stay here and build them a club to be proud of, that's for sure."
