| Thursday, 6 February, 2003, 16:42 GMT Wigan release Ashcroft Second Division title favourites Wigan Athletic and striker Lee Ashcroft have parted company. The former West Bromwich Albion, Preston and Grimsby frontman has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent. Ashcroft cost the Latics �350,000 when he signed from Grimsby in August, 2000, but started just 41 games, scoring nine goals. The 30-year-old has made just one appearance for Wigan this season, as a substitute in the Worthington Cup, and was surplus to requirements at the JJB Stadium. Ashcroft has had loan spells at Port Vale and Huddersfield Town this season and is now on the look-out for a new club. |
