Swindon defender Sean Morrison says the club need an experienced player to act as a leader for the defence.
Morrison, 19, could make his first start of the campaign as manager Danny Wilson looks to remedy a defence that has leaked six goals in three games.
He said: "We need an experienced head to come in and sort us out. We haven't got a natural leader at the back."
Swindon sold captain Gordon Greer to Brighton during the summer and only have three recognised centre-backs.
Scott Cuthbert, Lecsinel Jean-Francois and Morrison are all aged 23 or under.
It is understood the Town are looking to bring in another defender before the transfer window closes.
"Competition for places is never a bad thing," said Morrison. "It just makes you want to work harder in training and become a better player.
"Especially if you bring someone more experienced in, I'm only going to learn from him. A more experienced player, I think that's what we need."
Morrison signed for Swindon back in 2007 and has made a total of 33 appearances, but none so far this season.
This could the time when Sean can throw a few markers down for himself
Danny Wilson
Wilson has hinted that Morrison could play against Brentford this weekend and the former Plymouth Argyle trainee believes he is ready to become a regular in the first team.
"This year I feel a lot stronger, mentally and physically, so I definitely think I can prove myself and show not only the gaffer but the fans that I can go out there and do it," he said.
Wilson told BBC Wiltshire: "Sean's got all the attributes that you need and he's still only 19. I would hope to think he's chomping at the bit to play.
"This could the time when Sean can throw a few markers down for himself.
"After us conceding goals I think anybody would say 'right, I'm going to roll my sleeves up now and make the manager take notice, I want to be in in contention for Saturday'."
Morrison spent the first part of last season on loan at Southend before being brought back to the County Ground but was limited to nine appearances.
