Injury forces Roberts to retire

Christian Roberts
Roberts also had spells at Hereford and Drogheda United

Swindon striker Christian Roberts has been forced to retire from professional football because of a knee injury.

The 28-year-old last played in March before he sustained a micro-fracture in his knee and despite surgery doctors have advised him to quit the game.

Roberts, who has also played for Exeter and Cardiff, was signed by Andy King from Bristol City in October 2004.

He scored 27 goals for Swindon under several different managers in a total of 145 appearances for the club.

Off the pitch, Roberts received help from the Sporting Chance clinic for alcoholism in 2006, spending time at their centre in Hampshire.
