Swindon are hoping to redevelop the County Ground |
Swindon Town are hoping to begin "serious negotiations" with the local council in January over their plans to redevelop their County Ground home. The Robins have had a number of failed attempts to move to different sites throughout the town.
Mike Bowden joined the board of directors this week, with special responsibility for stadium development.
But Bowden told BBC Radio Swindon that plans drawn up by the supporters' trust had "a fatal flaw in them".
"The Trust or any other supporters have a right to draw up proposals, but at the moment, they do not speak for the football club - we do," he explained.
"As I read it, the Trust's proposal includes a significant amount of residential build on the site, and I'd be sceptical whether that would go down terribly well with the local authorities.
"But we're very excited about the prospects here at the County Ground.
"We think we've got an overall proposal that will be exciting for the fans, the shareholders, the town and the councillors."
However, the trust insist that their proposals are well-researched and viable.
