Swindon have announced they are to move from the County Ground |
Swindon Town football club will build their new 22,000-seater stadium at Shaw Tip in the west of the town. The club's decision to move from the County Ground to a site near Sparcells was announced at a news conference.
The new ground will be built in partnership with developers St Modwen Properties, who were involved with Stoke City's Britannia Stadium.
Fans will have a chance to comment on the design for the arena, which could be ready by the 2007/8 season.
The new stadium will include a hotel and a gym, which would add to the club's revenues.
Swindon chairman Willie Carson said: "The club is thrilled at the prospect and are delighted to be working with truly professional partners who share our vision."
Mike Bawden, leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: "There are still a lot of discussions to be had in relation to the land identified.
"However, I look forward to seeing the proposals taking shape and a detailed application for the planning committee to consider."
