| Wednesday, 5 February, 2003, 12:59 GMT Hylton heads for Swansea ![]() Swansea striker Jamie Wood has fractured his foot Swansea have bolstered their squad with the loan signing of Aston Villa's England Under-20 international Leon Hylton. Hylton, who can play at left-back or in the centre of defence, faces Germany at Reading's Madejski Stadium on Thursday night before joining up with the Swans squad. Although yet to play in the Villa first team, Hylton - who arrives at the Vetch on an initial month's loan - could figure against Macclesfield on Saturday given Swansea's injury concerns.
Central defender Alan Tate is suspended for Saturday's game at the Moss Rose, while left-back Michael Howard is struggling with injuries. Swansea boss Brian Flynn is also facing a crisis up front following injuries to Kevin Nugent and Jamie Woods during Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Darlington. Nugent, another loan signing, had to be substituted with a hamstring injury after scoring the game's only goal and will not figure on Saturday. It is worse news for Wood, who fractured a bone in his left foot after replacing James Thomas for the last 20 minutes. It was the former Manchester United striker's first appearance after completing a four-match ban, but he now faces four to six weeks out of action. "Alan Tate is definitely missing at the weekend and Michael Howard's condition is not going to get any better," Flynn told the club's official website. "He wants to continue playing and he should be able to, but we know that the way it is looking, he is going to need an operation sooner or later. "He is also just one more booking from a two-game suspension, so having Leon here gives us that extra cover, which will be important with so many big games coming up." |
