Sheffield Wednesday are just one of Proudlock's numerous clubs |
Adam Proudlock might have slipped off the radar in the past 18 months but a hat-trick on his latest appearance for Stockport suggests the one-time Wolves prodigy has not lost his Midas touch. "It's always nice to score goals. It has been a couple of years since my last hat-trick so it was brilliant," he told BBC Sport.
In reality, Proudlock's last treble in a first-team fixture came in November 2003 for Sheffield Wednesday in an FA Cup tie against Salisbury City.
Before that, he managed one for Wolves at Bradford in the Championship in 2001 and gave a glimpse of his potential by scoring three times on his senior debut on loan at Scottish club Clyde in 2000.
That early promise marked the former England youth international down as a possible future star at Wolves.
But, despite a handful of goals, his potential was never really fulfilled at Molineux.
Injuries did not help and a court appearance also preceded his move to Sheffield Wednesday in 2003.

His time at Wednesday brought brief flurries of goals but also a lengthy spell out with a broken leg before disciplinary issues clouded his departure.
"Unfortunately, back then I had a few mishaps off the pitch but that's gone now," said Proudlock.
"You learn from your own mistakes. You have people telling you what to and what not to do but you only learn from your own mistakes.
"I have done and I know what I want to do now and I want to concentrate on my career."
Ipswich offered him a route out of Hillsborough but by August 2006 he was looking for a club again and Stockport came to the rescue.

Six goals last season eased his rehabilitation and his treble against Wycombe took his total for the current season to eight, as he looks to keep heading in a positive direction.
"I just want to play," he stated. "I am 26 now and I want to carry on playing as long as I can. There is nothing better than training every day and playing every weekend.
"I don't think anyone doubts my ability. I just need the chance to be playing week in, week out. I want to play as many games as I can then hopefully I will score more.
"I have not been playing that much recently. I came on on the right wing against Staines in the FA Cup but I was back in my rightful position up front against Wycombe and I repaid the gaffer with a hat-trick.
"It's still unbelievable, especially when you win. To win 6-0 and score a hat-trick was unreal."
Proudlock (centre) began brightly at Wolves but then lost his way |
Propelling County up the League Two table is a far cry from helping Wolves to promotion to the Premier League, which Proudlock did four years ago.
But the Shropshire-born striker still harbours hopes of further promotions and after just missing out on the play-offs last season, is happy to make the most of the opportunity he has been given at Edgeley Park.
"Hopefully winning 6-0 will get us back in the running for promotion. We're only seven points off the play-offs and there is time to push on," he added.
"It's not the level I used to play at but I am enjoying my football and hopefully I can get back there with Stockport or if I do well, who knows?
"The gaffer has given me the chance to prove what I can do. I have just got until the end of the season but hopefully I can earn another contract by scoring more goals."
