Shrewsbury Town have signed young keeper Andreas Arestidou on a one-year deal following his release by Premier League side Blackburn Rovers.

The former England youth international, 19, has been known to Town boss Paul Simpson since his days in Lancashire as boss of Rovers' rivals Preston.

Arestidou, who came through the ranks at Ewood Park, was released in May.

But Simpson sees him as the man to push Glynn Garner for the vacancy left by the departure of loanee Luke Daniels.

Daniels, who starred for Shrewsbury in their run to the League Two play-off final, is now back with parent club West Bromwich Albion.
