Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson said he is pleased with Grant Holt, Chris Humphrey and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff's progress after pre-season operations.

Striker Holt had an ankle operation after the League Two play-off final defeat by Gillingham at Wembley.

Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire: "Grant has a bit of swelling but he's doing well. He's working with the club's physios and he's on target."

The club's record signing is due back in training towards the end of July.

Winger Humphrey has undergone a double hernia operation and Simpson said: "Chris is up to half to three-quarter pace when he's jogging and should be back on 1 July."

Humphrey is one of six players still deciding whether to accept a new deal at Shrewsbury Town.

Cansdell-Sherriff also had ankle surgery at the end of May and is making good progress.
