Yates has repeatedly expressed his wish to extend his stay at Port Vale
Port Vale manager Jim Gannon says he is speaking to several players over new contracts for next season.
A number of Vale players see their deals expire at the end of the current campaign and Gannon has already opened talks with three.
"I am mindful of the contracts running out, the talks will take place and at the right time we'll push it along," Gannon told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I've had preliminary talks with Adam Yates, Doug Loft and Gareth Owen."
Kris Taylor, Gary Roberts and Lewis Haldane are also coming to the end of their current contracts and Gannon says he will sit down with every player in the coming weeks to discuss his future plans.
I wanted to let the players know that I am thinking about the contract situation
Port Vale boss Jim Gannon
Vale face Bradford in League Two on Friday and the Vale boss admits that his side's busy schedule has made it difficult to find time to schedule meetings with players and their representatives.
"It's very hard because you've got games coming thick and fast and between myself, the players, the chairman and the directors we've all got things to be getting on with," said Gannon.
"There's going to be periods when we can sit down and talk, it's a process where a lot of things have to be considered but I wanted to let the players know that I am thinking about the contract situation."
