Stockport County have denied making contact with Geoff Horsfield about a possible move to Edgeley Park.
A Stockport official told BBC Radio Stoke that reports of an approach for the 37-year-old were untrue.
Horsfield, who played in the Premier League with Birmingham and West Bromwich Albion, has been the assistant manager at Port Vale since July 2009.
He joined Micky Adams as player-coach and retired from playing at the end of the 2009/10 campaign.
