Port Vale midfielder Gary Roberts has signed a six-month contract extension that will keep him at Vale Park for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old midfielder joined Vale in the summer after impressing boss Micky Adams in pre-season.
He scored a 10th-minute winner against Aldershot on Saturday but also received his fifth caution in six league games.
Roberts will now serve a one-match ban and misses Port Vale's game against strugglers Macclesfield .
Last week Vale offered Roberts a 12-month extension that would have seen him stay at Vale Park until January 2012.
Roberts' career had been dogged by controversy stemming from off-the-field issues prior to his arrival at Vale Park.
He was sacked by Rotherham earlier this year for breaching club discipline.
He came through the academy at Crewe and played for England at every level from Under-16 to Under-19.
