Port Vale midfielder Gary Roberts is looking to extend his stay at the club beyond January.

Roberts was handed a six-month deal by Vale manager Micky Adams in the summer, but wants to stay until at least the end of the season.

"I'd love to stay until the end of the season and hopefully if I keep doing as I am, we can get something sorted," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It's down to me, if I perform for the manager I'll get my reward."

Roberts, 23 was sacked by Rotherham in April for breach of club discipline, but the former England youth international has relished the opportunity to rebuild his career at Vale Park.

"I've wanted that (chance) obviously, it's come down to hard work and people helping me and I'm grateful for that," he added.

"I've just got to progress now and keep climbing the ladder."
