Midfielder Gary Roberts represented England at several youth levels

Former Crewe, Yeovil and Rotherham midfielder Gary Roberts has signed a six-month contract with Port Vale following a successful trial spell.

Roberts, 23, has featured prominently during pre-season and travelled with the squad on their tour of Ireland.

"His attitude in pre-season has been spot on and he has a delightful range of passing," manager Micky Adams told the official club website.

"I am delighted to get him. He will be a good addition to the squad."

Roberts had been without a club since being sacked by Rotherham in April for a breach of club discipline.

The former England youth international has been allocated the number 22 shirt for the new season.
