Lewis Haldane has returned to training with Port Vale after spending two weeks in hospital following an insect bite.

Haldane, 25, suffered blood poisoning and Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke that the winger will not be rushed back into competitive action.

"The physio had a look at him on Monday morning and he's probably a minimum of a month away," Adams said.

"His ankle is still very sore and painful, and we won't rush him. It's been a terrible time for the boy."

Adams continued: "He's over the worst now and we've just got to manage him the best that we can."

Haldane, who initially joined Vale from Bristol Rovers in September 2009, agreed a two-year contract at Vale Park in May.

He scored four goals in 43 appearances for the League Two club last season.
