Port Vale winger Lewis Haldane has been rushed into hospital after being bitten by an insect during a training session.

The 25-year-old, who signed a two-year contract in May, reported a problem to manager Micky Adams and is currently waiting for the results of blood tests.

"His ankle was a little bit puffy, we had it checked out and it gradually got worse," Adams told BBC Radio Stoke.

Haldane is likely to miss Vale's friendly matches against Harborough Town and Biddulph Vics at the weekend.

The former Bristol Rovers player scored four goals in 43 appearances last season, as Vale missed out on a play-off place on the final day of the League Two season.
