Vale must pick right man - Anyon

Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Anyon has told BBC Radio Stoke that the club's board face a "massive decision" as they close in on appointing a new manager.

John Ward and Micky Adams are the two main candidates to replace Dean Glover.

"The club will pick the right person, because they've got to this time," said Anyon. "It's a massive decision."

"It will help that it's someone with a clean slate, with no ties to Port Vale, and someone who can give the crowd the belief that they'll have a good go."

The Valiants finished 18th in their first season back in League Two, but Anyon believes the new manager could turn Vale into a team that will challenge for promotion.

"If you can give the crowd that belief, they get behind you, and you start winning your home games," said the former Blackburn trainee.

"This time next season you want to be turning on the television and seeing yourself in the play-offs or already promoted."

The 22-year-old is currently recovering from a broken leg, which he sustained in a match at Chesterfield in March.

He is hopeful, however, of being fit for the start of the season on 8 August.
