The Plymouth Argyle board has released a statement expressing "deep concerns" over the club's Championship status.
The document confirmed under-fire manager Paul Sturrock would be in charge of the side for Saturday's crucial match against Sheffield United.
It said: "The directors believe Argyle staying in the top two tiers of the league is paramount."
The Pilgrims are in danger of relegation from the Championship with just one win in 15 games.
The board also said they will do "all in their power" to ensure the club remain in the second tier of English football this season.
