Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock is in talks with Austrian international striker Roman Kienast about bringing him to the Championship club.
The 24-year-old was on trial at Home Park last week and played in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Cardiff City.
"It's still ongoing," Sturrock told BBC Radio Devon.
"We're talking to the agent, we're talking personal terms, we've got to talk to the football club and then we've got to make a decision," he said.
The former Rapid Vienna forward is reported to have told an Austrian newspaper that Sturrock was keen to sign him.
Kienast is currently with Norwegian club Ham-Kam but spent the final part of last year on loan at top flight Swedish side Helsingborgs.
Argyle's attempts to sign Japanese international Akihiro Ienaga were thwarted last week when he was refused a work permit.
Sturrock's plans to watch some triallists were also scuppered after a reserve game on Monday was called off
"We had one playing in that game, maybe two, and it was a real blow to us," he said.
"I'm going to tramp about now and see if I can dig up a friendly of some sort over the next couple of days."
