Peterborough United winger Lee Tomlin has said he is doing all he can to raise his fitness levels.
Boss Gary Johnson has challenged the former Rushden man to prove himself ready for a regular place in team.
Tomlin told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I've come on a couple of times and obviously started in the Oldham game so I'm starting know what's needed.
"There is a difference in the fitness you need and maybe at Rushden I had it a bit too easy."
Tomlin started more than 150 matches in over five years with Rushden before moving to Posh in August.

He was handed his first start in Saturday's 5-2 win over Oldham, but accepts that he needs to work on his fitness levels.
The 21-year-old Leicester City academy product has spent most of his career to date as a left-winger, but was used on the right against Oldham.
"I've come here as a winger and with George Boyd on the left I'm looking to take my chance on the right," he said.
"We've seen in the Premier League how left wingers can be effective on the right, cutting inside and shooting."
While Tomlin's fitness levels may need a bit of work, he feels he already understands wing-play at League One level.
"When I was at Rushden the manager Justin Edinburgh was keen for me to get back into the game quickly whenever I lost the ball," he said.
"I think that's part of the reason I got the move here is that I've been doing the defensive side as well as the attacking."
Posh have enjoyed a strong start to the new season with four wins from six matches and currently sit top of League One.
Tomlin has said he could not have hoped for a better start to life at London Road.
"It always good to be top of the league and every player who's playing football wants to see their side at the top of the table," he said.
"It would be a dream come true to win promotion and be playing in the Championship as I never thought I'd be able to make that level."
