Oxford United's chairman prepared for cold weather

Kelvin Thomas
Thomas is confident the pitch at the Kassam will be playable

Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas is confident that Saturday's League Two game against Barnet at the Kassam will go ahead despite cold weather.

The U's chairman has assured fans that steps are being taken to ensure home fixtures remain undisrupted.

Thomas said: "We're not overly concerned about the game on Saturday. The pitch isn't that bad but the pitch covers arrive later this week.

"So we'll be managing that and make sure everything goes ahead."

The U's Christmas programme was hit last year by the cold weather, including a late postponement of a match against Rushden & Diamonds on Boxing Day due to frost.

Thomas added: "I know there are a few concerns about it on the back of the Boxing Day game last year but we've learned our lessons from that.

"We've been in constant dialogue with the university (who provide groundstaff) and the stadium company and we'll make sure that this game is on for Saturday."
