Oxford United chairman positive over U's challenge

Kelvin Thomas
Thomas has been delighted by Oxford's season so far

Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas says he is full of confidence about the team's chances of success this season.

Tamworth ended the U's unbeaten home run on Saturday but Thomas believes it will not dent the positive feeling at the club this season.

"The unity is here. The club has been through some tough times but we have to look forward," Thomas told BBC Oxford.

"You have to pay attention to your history but it is about going forward and how positive we are."

He added: "We have improved as a staff and as a club because we have a positive feeling within us and around us.

"That is key to success. There will be highs and lows but we have to stay as even keel as possible."

The defeat to Tamworth in the Blue Square Premier ended an impressive run where the U's had remained unbeaten at the Kassam Stadium this season.

Thomas said: "We are going to lose, we have to accept that. Manchester United lose, Chelsea lose, Arsenal lose, so we will lose at a certain time in the season, but it is how we react.

"We don't get carried away when we win, and we won't get carried away now we have been beaten. I think we will go on a run that will stand us in good stead."
