Blue Square Premier side Oxford United have signed Weymouth defender Kevin Sandwith until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old worked with U's manager Chris Wilder at Halifax and left the Dorset club after not receiving any wages in 2009.
"The lads got on with it excellently for so many weeks but it went on too long," Sandwith told BBC Oxford.
"Now I'm here I have to take my chance. I've always had a lot of time for Chris, he's a good man to work for."
Wilder said: "Kev has got experience, he's a good defender, and is a good character in and around the place.
"He gives us cover and balance and there is some genuine competition for places."
Sandwith made 30 Blue Square Premier appearances for Weymouth this season after joining them in the summer, following his release by Chester.
