Oxford United have told midfielder Joe Burnell and young defender James Clarke that they can both leave the club.
Burnell, 28, who was United's captain earlier this season, still has another year on his contract to run.
Right-back Clarke, 19, has been told he will not be offered a fresh deal when his contract expires this summer.
U's boss Chris Wilder told the club's website: "I have other ideas and other plans and sadly neither Joe or James fit into those."
He added: "It's hard in some ways because they are both good pros who have never been a moment's trouble and who have worked very hard in training.
"We have circulated their names and details to clubs and will try and help them find new clubs."
Clarke, an Oxford youth-team graduate, has played 32 Blue Square Premier games for United, including 14 this season.
Burnell joined Oxford in July from Northampton and played 21 times in the league.
