Jim Smith is backing new Oxford United boss Chris Wilder to make a successful impact at the Kassam Stadium

Smith was standing in as caretaker manager but, as director, was also heavily involved in the process to appoint Wilder.

"We did need a manager who knows the non-league," Smith told BBC Oxford.

"He is very ambitious. You could see that he wanted the job. They all wanted it but you could see he wanted it more with his determination."
