New Oxford boss Chris Wilder admits he faces a challenge to turn United's fortunes around, but is clear about his ambitions for the club.

"The way the club is in at the moment it in a position it shouldn't be in, " Wilder told BBC Oxford.

"It's a football league club. It is 13th in the Conference and it should be looking to get out of this division, that is my aim."

The 41-year old will take charge of his first game at Salisbury on Boxing Day.

Wilder acknowledges the weight of expectation at the Kassam Stadium but says he isn't daunted by the size of the task.

"I am delighted to be here. I am excited about the challenge in front of us, and I am looking forward to moving the club onwards and upwards."
