Gray knows the Cobblers must start picking up points to avoid the drop

Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray is staying positive despite his side being three points from safety in League One.

After losing 3-2 to Southend he told BBC Radio Northampton: "I said to the players if they show that same effort and commitment we'll get out of it.

"However, the bottom line is we need to defend better."

Northampton, who lost to the Shrimpers on Monday, have with two games in hand on the four teams directly above them in the table.
