Turner upbeat over Pools survival

Chris Turner
Turner's Pools side are set for a trip to Essex to face Southend

Hartlepool United manager Chris Turner is confident his side will survive in League One this season.

Pools are just four points clear of the drop zone with seven games to play and Turner told BBC Tees: "It's so tight, everybody is feeling the pressure.

"There is work to be done but it is in our own hands.

"And a lot of the clubs below us have to play each other as well as the leading sides so it is impossible for them to all pick up maximum points."

Pools' next game is against Southend at Roots Hall on Friday night and Turner wants them to build on their display in last weekend's 3-2 defeat by Millwall.

Ahead of his side's 550-mile round-trip, he explained: "I've got faith in the players if they put in the type of performance they did on Saturday, minus the individual errors.

And Turner has done all he can to ensure his squad enjoys the best preparation ahead of the crucial fixture.

"It's another long journey for the players, an away game, but we've got to be professional," he said.

"We're training at Ipswich Town's training ground, the trip won't be too long-lasting as we're splitting up the journey with the training.

"We feel we're getting it right off the field, and now it's up to the players to get it right on the field."
