Forest Green set to name new boss

Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green Rovers chairman Trevor Horsley expects to decide who will be the club's new manager within the next 24 hours.

Player-coach David Brown has been in caretaker charge since the end of July, before Jim Harvey was sacked in August.

A club statement said Rovers had "received over 40 applications for the vacancy for first-team manager".

It continued that Horsley "will be making a final decision in the next 24 hours as to a new appointment".

Forest Green have picked up only one point from their opening eight games this season, including a club record 7-0 defeat at Cambridge United on Saturday.

The club defended the length of time taken they have taken to find a new boss.

"It is only right that the new man at the helm will be chosen for the long-term aspirations of the club and not as a knee-jerk reaction to the start of the season," added the statement.

"The board fully understands [it] was going to be difficult for a variety of reasons, let alone the issues around having to find a new manager."
