Gudjon Thordarson won the manager of the month award for February
Gudjon Thordarson is in talks to extend his contract as manager of Crewe Alexandra, reports BBC Radio Stoke.
Thordarson, who was appointed on Christmas Eve, only signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.
"I have had a healthy chat with the chairman, but it's clear from my point of view that I want to stay," he said.
"I think I can build a lot here. There are things that I have assessed and seen that I can improve and that I'm sure I will improve."
The 53-year-old has overseen an amazing turn of fortunes for the League One club since arriving at the Alexandra Stadium.
Crewe have won seven of the 11 league games of which Thordarson has taken charge. And, in the process, the team have lifted themselves from 24th to 19th in the table.
They are now two points clear of trouble after Saturday's 2-1 win at home to fellow strugglers Hereford United, thanks to two goals from defender Billy Jones.
"I'm very relieved after the win," said Thordarson. "We've proved that, if we are at it, we are concentrated and disciplined and we can get results."
The former Stoke City, Barnsley and Notts County boss won the League One manager of the month award for his achievements in February.
