Zola scored his fifth goal for Crewe in the 1-0 win at Colchester
Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson has said Calvin Zola's goal in the 1-0 win at Colchester was just reward for a fine performance by the striker.
Zola's fifth goal of the season was enough to lift Crewe six points clear of the League One relegation zone.
Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "He did well because it was a tight angle, we know he's capable of that but he needs to do it more often.
"He was also helping defensively and gave their backline a lot of problems."
The Crewe boss also had special praise for defender Dennis Lawrence, who made his first appearance since fracturing his cheekbone against Yeovil on 24 February.
The Trinidad and Tobago international played at the Community Stadium wearing a protective mask.
"Credit to Dennis, he has shown great commitment and he didn't have any hesitation when the mask was first discussed," added Thordarson.
"I'm not scared of him in the mask, but I am worried about what it does to other people."
