Attacking freedom helps Howland

Port Vale midfielder David Howland said boss Dean Glover's decision to employ a five-man midfield at Bradford paid dividends for him and the team.

Howland scored the only goal in the 1-0 win at Valley Parade on Saturday.

"Anthony Griffith has come into the middle, he gives us that insurance to bomb on, and I think it worked well," Howland told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It's a side of my game that the fans haven't seen this season so hopefully there's more to come."

The Northern Ireland under-21 international netted for only the third time this season.

His other two strikes, in games away at Lincoln and Huddersfield, ended in victories for Port Vale.

"That's a good sign, but unfortunately I've only scored three goals so I could do with a few more," added Howland.
